History

A manor house was located on the site from the 18th century on what was known as Larkfield farm.[1] In the nineteenth century it was the home of the Reverend William Lewis Wigan and his family. Wigan died in 1876 and the family continued to live at the residence.[1] In 1890, a fire gutted the building and it had to be rebuilt. It was eventually extended and became a hotel.[1] The hotel now has 52 rooms and has recently been renovated.[2]

Haunting

The hotel is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a servant girl known as Charlotte, who died shortly after an unsuccessful abortion.[3] Her existence was verified by a clairvoyant in the mid-1980s after the hotel manager reported experiencing a presence many times.[4]During an investigation it was revealed that gallows once stood on the site, and that many unhappy spirits occupied the site.
